About the University of Guelph’s Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics (FARE)

University of Guelph’s Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics (FARE) has a longstanding tradition of offering world class research service to government and industry organizations in the Canadian and International Agri-Food Sectors. The department has research programs in food economics, agribusiness and resource economics. It provides teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs.

Undergraduate degree programs include: Bachelor of Commerce (Agricultural Business), Bachelor of Arts (Agricultural Economics), Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Economics), Bachelor of Science (Environmental Economics and Policy).

At the graduate level, programs include Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy in Agricultural Economics, each of which include the option for selected collaborative programs. The PhD in Resource and Environmental Economics is offered collaboratively by the Departments of Economics and Food, Agricultural & Resource Economics. The department also provides an MBA in Agribusiness management.

The department has close working links with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (OMAF), Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Health Canada, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Forestry Canada and with producer organizations. In addition, the department has a strong presence internationally, with graduate students coming from North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia.
